First Landing State Park (Virginia Beach)
Our top pick. Direct beach access on the Chesapeake Bay side, miles of trails, and a campground store. Sites are wooded so you get shade and breeze. The downside: it books six to nine months out for summer weekends. Pool: no. Playground: limited. Beach: excellent. Best for: families that prioritize beach over pool.
North Bay Shore Campground (Sandbridge)
Pool, playground, and a relaxed vibe. Closer to Sandbridge Beach than the main oceanfront strip, which means less traffic and a calmer beach scene. Sites are a mix of full hookup and partial. Books a few weeks out for most summer weekends. Best for: families with younger kids who want a pool plus a beach day.
Holiday Trav-L-Park (Virginia Beach)
Short walk to the oceanfront via a tunnel under General Booth Boulevard. Pool, mini golf, and a shuttle to the boardwalk in summer. Sites are tight and there is not much shade. Best for: families who want everything walkable and do not mind a denser campground.
KOA Virginia Beach
Reliable KOA. Pool, playground, on-site activities, shuttle to the oceanfront. Higher price point than independent parks but you know what you are getting. Best for: first-time campers and families that want predictability.
Newport News Park (Newport News, 30 min)
Massive municipal park, 188 sites, miles of trails, paddle boat rentals, and a playground. No pool, but the park itself is the activity. Five minutes from our home base in Hampton, so delivery is easy. Best for: families that want trees and trails over beach and pool.
Anvil Campground (Williamsburg, 60 min)
Pool, playground, and walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg. Pairs well with a Busch Gardens or Water Country day. Best for: families combining a camping trip with theme parks or historic Williamsburg.
Williamsburg KOA
Pool, playground, jumping pillow, mini golf, and a shuttle to Busch Gardens. Higher density than Anvil but more on-site amenities. Best for: families with kids ages 4 to 12 who want maximum on-site entertainment.
Northwest River Park (Chesapeake, 45 min)
Full-service campsites, kayak launches, fishing, and miles of trails. No pool. The river itself is the water feature. Quietest of the eight. Best for: families with older kids or grandkids who want quiet over chaos.
Whichever campground you pick, we deliver. Booking lead time matters more than rig choice for family trips: lock in the campsite first, then talk to us about The Haven (sleeps 8-10) or The Nest (sleeps 6) depending on family size. Both come fully staged with linens, towels, and kitchen basics so you are not packing the car like a Tetris puzzle.
